Colour Beyond the Wildest Imagination

Nova Scotia is noted for its many fishing villages and I, for one, never tire of visiting and photographing them. I find them constantly changing - with the tides, the weather, the time of day, the seasons and particularly before, during and after an active fishing season.

But one of the best times to seek them out is a month or two before the lobster season starts. It varies around the province as there is always lobster fishing going on somewhere in the province throughout the year.

The reason I choose to visit prior to lobster season is that it is the time when lobster traps are being prepared and, in particular, floats or markers have just received a new coat of paint. Each lobster fisherman has his or her personal colour scheme so everywhere you go their colours are different.

What's they have in common is the spectacular colours they choose. I didn't realize paint stores sold so many varieties of blazing colours. It's enough to burn your eyes out, but they serve a practical purpose because they are easily identified against the dark seas, especially in the pre-dawn hours when many lobster fishermen start their day.

The lobster season will open in western Nova Scotia in a couple of months, but already preparations are well underway.

That's a sample of the visual feast that awaits you and your camera. So what are you waiting for?

When I saw colors I had hoped to get some info on fall foilage. I loved the pics and understand the feeling. I am 74 years young and have good thoughts of fall foilage there and would like to experience the sights there again while I can still see and drive. I am planning to make a trip there around the 26 th of Sept. I will be leaving South Carolina to start my trip and hope to reach Nova Scotia in early Oct. I plan some stops along the way such as Arcdia national park in Maine etc. If you have any info to help me enjoy the sights I would appreciate the info. I havent been there since the mid 90s so I know there will be a multitude of changes. When I was there last I enjoyed staying at local B&B homes with wonderful people. Any info on food places to stay and sights along the way would be appreciated. I will have to watch my budget to be able to stay long enough to make the trip worth while. I plan to be in the good company of my fiance who has never been in that area. She had a friend who died in the plane crash oof Peggy's Cove a few years back and will want to visit that area. Thankong you James Wilson
