So I couldn't resist a second post this week...all in the love of Halloween.
I love abandoned houses and the mystery that surrounds them. They hold a thousand stories from long ago. Who lived there before? Where did they go? What did they leave behind? There is something about them to me that is hauntingly beautiful. Bits of old wallpaper and furniture left behind let us peak into another era gone by. You can let your mind fill in the cracks and gaps and picture them in all their glory.
Here are a few beauties I found on a trip to Guysborough. Note: I did not go inside these houses. I wouldn't feel right. Mostly, I told myself it was because the structure wasn't safe. But in truth it's because my imagination can get a little carried away. All pictures are taken with a zoom lens from a safe distance, so I could zoom zoom myself if I needed to.

I found this house on the way to Canso.
The door was open...but I wasn't going in!
Hanging by a thread.
Peering through the glass. You can see bits of old wall paper.

I took this on the old road going towards Antigonish. Looks like a storm moving in.

Then I found this old farmhouse, half of it looked like it was imploding.

Do you know anything about these houses? I would love to hear. Do you have any stories of old abandoned houses of your own?
When I lived in Yarmouth Co and in Shelburne Co I used to like driving around looking at old abandoned houses and photographed alot of the. They all have a story, a history, but much of that is lost, except to maybe some of the locals. I enjoy painting old buildings and old boats and still do most of my work from Nova Scotia scenes. Thanks for sharing this post- I enjoyed it!
Yarmouth and Shelburne are particularly beautiful with all the old sea captain's houses. I would love to see some of your paintings. I'm sure you've got some great stories to tell. It is true, you really need a local to tell you the history.
Fabulous shots. Makes me yearn to get over to Nova Scotia where I grew up. Am going back from the UK to retire next year. I shal visit your blog for inspiration!!
