tide chart.jpgIf you're planning to visit Bay of Fundy, you'll hear advice again and again about the importance of checking tide times for each coastal area of Fundy you're planning to visit. Tide times vary DAILY and by LOCATION because the bay sloshes back and forth like a bathtub during the high to low then high again cycle. Luckily, there are searchable tide charts on the Canadian Hydrographic Service website but they are a bit tricky to read.

Here are some tips for reading tide charts like the sample above:

- on this sample day there are two high tides and two low tides at Burncoat Head

- in any chart the high tide is identifiable from low tide because it's the row with the bigger numbers (in metres & feet).

- even when the tide is fully low, there is still a measurement indicated for low tide because the Bay doesn't completely empty out at low tide.

- tide times for each community around the Bay move ahead about 52 minutes every day.

- it takes 6 hrs 13 minutes for Bay of Fundy's tides to go from high to low (and vice versa) so if you only know the high tide for a location you can calculate the low tide by adding 6 hr 13 min. Or if you only know the low tide time you can calculate the high tide time by doing the same.
