While the Bay of Fundy is generally known for having the highest tides on the planet there is actually one particular spot on the Bay that achieved this honor officially for Fundy: Burntcoat Head in the Minas Basin area of upper Fundy. Indeed, the Canadian Hydrographic Service recorded this original vertical tide measurement many years ago as 54.6 feet (16.8 metres). Burncoat Head is open seasonally to the public for tide viewing and touring. There are interesting sandstone formations at Burncoat that become islands at high tide. Here you'll also find a charming historic lighthouse as well as opportunities to walk on the ocean floor at low tide. Tide times around the Bay of Fundy vary by location, by date and by height so it is always safest to check tide charts before visiting.
