love builds up the broken wall
and straightens the crooked path
love keeps the stars in the firmament
and imposes rhythm on the ocean tides
each of us is created of it
and i suspect
each of us was created for it

As Valentine's Day approaches thoughts turn to romance and Nova Scotia is naturally a very romantic place because it is shaped by the sea.
There's a pull to the ocean, something so spiritual and invigorating. It's a place to reconnect to your spirit. A place where you can feel the tranquility and your stress is washed away by each crashing wave. Because the ocean has this natural effect, it's the perfect place rekindle your romance.
When we talk of beaches, some will naturally visualize white sand and palm trees, but I think there is something special about experiencing the ocean in winter. I love to watch a winter storm when the waves come crashing on the shore. Cozying up inside with a nice warm fire, nestled away in a remote cottage somewhere makes you feel like even though the world around you is still spinning but inside there is only just the two of you.
There are so many great places to retreat in Nova Scotia. By day you can get out and enjoy the fresh air, take in a hike or snowshoe if the weather is right. Then watch an early sunset and enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner. There are so many quaint country inns, cottages and even resorts that are close to the ocean.
And then there's the FOOD. In Nova Scotia the 'F' in February stands for food. There are several great festivals and events. There's Dine Around Nova Scotia: many of the restaurants have created special menus to invite patrons to sample the fare. There's the Savour Food and Wine Show, where you can sample food and wine from restaurants and wineries across Nova Scotia. And there's the Icewine Festival with events around the province where you can enjoy this sweet and unique wine with your sweetheart . Not only is it a seafood lover's paradise, there are so many other locally grown products and foods. And there is such dedication to preparing delicious local cuisine. Many of our inns and resorts have hired world-class chefs, each preparing a little something extra special this time of year.
Everything about a romantic Nova Scotia getaway will not only delight your tastebuds, it will feed the soul.
