Spryfield Holiday Parade Full of Angels

The leaves have dropped from the trees, we've had our first major snow, and meteorologists have started using the term 'above zero' for those odd times when it's not freezing. While it might be a little chilly, don't head into hibernation just yet. There are still a lot of things to do, and lots to see around Nova Scotia.
After watching a spectacular Parade of Lights from the Split Crow in downtown Halifax on Nov 19th, I was given the opportunity to participate in the 37th Annual Spryfield Santa Claus Parade on Nov 27th. The weekend gave us rather favorable weather, sunny and even in the positive digits with little to no wind.

My job in the parade was to help hold a banner for Team Possibles, an organization created by local artist Renee Forrestall, an artists-run program that addresses the social, cultural, and expressive needs of young adults with Down Syndrome and their peers (ages 14-25). It is part of the Nova Scotia Down Syndrome Society

They had us gather together on Punch Bowl Drive, just off of Herring Cove Road. The parade begins at Herring Cove Road and goes all the way to Drysdale Road, ending at the Spryfield Lions Rink. Dressed as angels complete with beautiful wings and halos we headed down the road cheered on by a large crowd of all ages. The parade was quite long including many different cool and crazy floats. Once we reached the Spryfield Lions Rink we were greeted with delicious hot chocolate and hot dogs provided by the local Lions. A great way to warm up after a nice walk on a chilly fall day.

If you missed both the Halifax and Spryfield parades don't worry there's still a lot of fun coming up. The Christmas Tree Lighting in Grand Parade, as well as the re-opening of the Halifax Oval are just two examples of local holiday activities, so put on your coat and mitts, and get out there!
