The Halifax Seaport is event and local culture central this summer

As the Halifax Seaport district continues to grow, so too does the flurry of activity at the Seaport during the beautiful summer months. Whether you're planning a cruise with Halifax on the itinerary, arranging a longer-term Nova Scotia getaway or if you're someone local just looking for fun stuff to do, here are five events well worth taking in over the summer months at the Halifax Seaport.

The Nova Scotia Designer Crafts Council (NSDCC) represents 350 individual craftspeople and each year they are asked to submit work for the organizations' annual member exhibition. For 2011, the exhibition Inspired encourages NSDCC members to visit any museum or heritage site in Nova Scotia, select an artifact, and then reinterpret that artifact through the creation of a new work of craft.

RBC Multicultural Festival
June 30 - July 3

The RBC Multicultural Festival is the largest multicultural festival of its kind in Atlantic Canada. Join more than 20,000 visitors and over 500 performers June 30 - July 3 for the 27th annual celebration of cultural diversity in Nova Scotia. Enjoy world music and dance shows, a delectable assortment of ethnic foods, the always-popular children's pavilion, arts, crafts, workshops and cultural displays. We invite you to be a part of this exciting event and gain a new understanding of the value that diverse cultures contribute to a vibrant and exciting Nova Scotia.

July 5 at the Cunard Centre

Come watch the 80s Aussie rockers INXS accompanied by Nova Scotian front man JD Fortune as they electrify the Cunard Centre with favourite hits like What You Need, Suicide Blonde, Devil Inside and New Sensation. INXS has sold 30 million albums worldwide, performed in nearly 50 countries and achieved No. 1 hits on four continents.

Fridays from July 22 - August 26

Produced by the Atlantic Film Festival, the 11th annual alFresco filmFesto, a free outdoor summer film series, presents "Summer of Murray," paying tribute to actor and comedian Bill Murray with six fantastic films to be shown on Fridays from July 22 - August 26 on the Halifax Waterfront. The films will be projected on a 30-foot inflatable screen at the end of the Harbourwalk next to the Seaport district.

Halifax Seaport Beerfest
August 5 - 6

The Halifax Seaport Beerfest, the largest event of its kind in Atlantic Canada, returns for its fifth year with 200 beers and ciders and an expected 5,000 attendees. It's a true celebration of all things brewed and is a great opportunity to sample, experience and learn about beer and cider in a relaxed and fun setting. Armed with souvenir sample cup and guide, we urge you to explore the incredible range in styles and countries offered. Employ your senses, ask questions and keep an open mind - you will be surprised. For great food, great music and great times, head down to the Seaport for a "Beer on the Pier!"
